One of my favorite moments of the day is when I get the chance to check in on the elementary classes. Recently, I observed the fourth and fifth graders deeply engaged in their cross-curriculum ecosystems animal project. They were reading books and writing down facts, learning about animals native to their specific region of South Carolina. The students' teachers, Mrs. Shiree Gabelman and Ms. Stacia Odums, sat with their students, asking them questions about what they were learning and guiding them through the process. I overheard students discussing fun facts concerning snakes, white-tailed deer, bull sharks, honeybees, and more. I also observed them pointing out living and nonliving things in the four different regions of South Carolina.

The students are not only learning science through this ecosystem project but also incorporating grammar and writing by preparing a research paper about their animal. In art, they brought the South Carolina regions where their animals live to life by creating a 3-D mural. I personally can't wait for our KLA families to visit our mobile museum in the chalkboard hallway. It showcases the academic creativity of our students and the beauty of working together.

The mobile museum will be open for parents and students to visit over the next two weeks. We’d love for you to come by and check it out!
